Unearthing a Self-Curated Nachlaß: A General Survey of Luise Adolpha Le Beau’s Published Lieder

Cohen-Davison Family Theatre 1 East Mount Vernon Place, Baltimore, MD

This DMA lecture recital will provide an overview of the published Lieder opuses of Romantic-era composer Luise Adolpha Le Beau (1850-1927). With the support of a Presser Graduate Award, this research project began over a year ago, as I undertook archival research to explore Le Beau's relationship to song in Berlin, Karlsruhe, and Baden-Baden from March to June 2022. In collaboration with Hui-Chuan Chen (piano), we will perform excerpts from Le Beau's published song repertoire, and I will discuss the socio-cultural, historical, and musical elements of Le Beau's Lieder oeuvre.
