Émilie

Kaija Saariaho’s monodrama, Émilie, composed in 2008, tells the fascinating and heartbreaking story of Émilie du Chatelet, an 18th-Century pioneering French philosopher, mathematician, physicist, and author. Composed for a single soprano soloist in nine scenes, this production features a different soloist as Émilie in each scene.

In collaboration with Peabody Institute’s contemporary chamber ensemble, Now Hear This, Noelle McMurtry performs the titular role of Émilie in scenes i and viii.
