Acting Art Song: A Workshop

In March, I am thrilled to facilitate Acting Art Song with students in the Opera Workshop class at the University of Maryland. Conceived in collaboration with Corinne Hayes, Director of Acting at Maryland Opera Studio, this workshop is centered on the preparation and performance of any art song for the recital stage.

Acting Art Song is designed as a general introduction for undergraduate and graduate voice students to develop the necessary research, analytical, and performance skills to confidently engage with art song as a multi-faceted repertoire. In addition to in-class song coachings, Acting Art Song will cover such topics as creating song style maps, analyzing poetic texts, defining clear song protagonists, and physically embodying art song in performance. By synthesizing musical, textual, and dramatic analyses of an art song, we will strive to create embodied performances of art song that are unique, imaginative, and well-informed.
